Welcome to my World

One of my Self Portraits I have taken. I looked at the make-up and what I thought I should wear. I have also thought about the lighting, background and the position of my shot.

About Me

Charlotte Sophia O'Neill: I am very ambitious about Photography; I love many different aspects of the subject, such as developing my own films, making photogram’s, experimenting with pinholes and digital. I really enjoy getting new briefs and getting really stuck in to them. Planning out my ideas and developing them until I get the outcome I’m proud of. I admire many artists; I never get bored of looking at their work as most really inspire me and give me lots of ideas for my own work. There are lots more I have to learn about photography which I am very keen to do all the time. I really would love to find myself even more in this course, as I already know I want to use photography in my career, just not sure which path way I would enjoy the best. Talk more about artists. take more about future plans. maybe get abit more technical too. I do an AS photograpghy night class and Art Foundation year.

Hidden Stories

This was our first brief we got given in my lens based media class. We had to...

I started off with a mind map that I had quite a few different ideas, but the one that stood out to me the best was seeing another side to people. If i had to give a title to my work it would be 'behind closed doors'. I wanted to capture people who suffer alone, like depresion, being bullied and...

I picked this idea as I wanted to give my self a challenge and I have never done a project like this before.

Over all I am very pleased with the out come of my photo's. They have all been photoshop edited to make them darker and look colder.
If i had to impove on my project I would add photo's of what people look like infront of their friends as well as the depressing photos so that you can see a different of what people are like 'behind closed doors.

Memories

For this brief I found it very difficult at first as I didn't know how to go about recoreding the past. I made a mind map and came up with the idea of doing my own take on a photoalbum. I made my photo album more in to my style so it was very scrap book like. I really like this unit as I got to look at lots of old photographs and it really made me think about how much a photography means to me.

Here are a few images I made by photo copying my pages of my photo album and then made a collarge out of them.

Sense of Place

This was with my memory brief, as for my memories I didn't just want to use old photographs as thats a bit boring. So I decided to take new photographs of places I've been and how I remember them. This was alot of fun as it was great to go back to places I've not been to in a while, also in away, I guess I made a new memory at the time too.

I tryed to give a variaty of different places such as busy citys or quiet country life. I'm very pleased with my photographs and would love to do more on this work.

Street lights Busy passer-bys

Showing the busy and hectic life style that is Manchester City centre. This photo was taken at Albert Square showing the famous christmas markets. I used a long exposer which was about 10 seconds long, I like the way the street lights stand out and how colourful and lit u the market is.

Tension & Movement

For this unit I found it rather hard, as when i first got given the brief I wasn't sure on how to go about it. To get started I wrote down the definition of each word, tension and movement and then wrote down a mind map for each. I still however wasnt happy with what to do, as I wanted to think of an image that had both Tension and Movement involved.

I came to the conclusion after hours of research that basing my project on basketball would be a good idea as it has alot of muscle use in it which is 'tensing' and 'moving'. I also play alot of basketball and really enjoy it so it just made sence for me to use it in my work.

However I decided to change my idea as I thought they were to simple. I decided to look more at tension in the atmosphere instead, but still using basketball as I thought that worked well.

Over all I've very pleased with the photos I have taken. I focused alot on the composition of each photo and thought carefully about lighting.

Electric Vision

So far I think this breif was the hardest as I found it hard to get my head around what was asked.

I did my mind maps and came to the conclusion of photographing electric currents and realised how we cant see them but there still there.

I began by taking pictures in the studio of my teacher with the flash equipment on long exposers so that it gave me a moving image.
I then moved on to photographing phones and televisions on long exposers to give a blur effect, which turned out really well.

Over all I'm very please with my outcomes.
